Go Fund Me campaign to destroy Doug’s R32
Edit: I guess I should have clearly stated that I do not support this asinine Go fund me page and Doug is my favorite writer. I in fact do not hate Doug.

I smell 4chan.

Why $2,000? A box of matches and half a gallon of gas is like $5
edit: this is great

If the people on 4chan don’t like me, then I am doing it right.
I truly believe that.

It’s funny. Last year we started to get complaints in June — “Why are you writing about the Ferrari so much.” I patiently explained to everybody: I had a poll of the readers, they decided on the car, now I am writing about it.
This year, it has started in September. Same deal. “Why are you writing about the Skyline so much.” So I patiently explain to everyone. We had a poll. The readers chose a car. Now I’m writing about it.
But nobody has ever said anything to me along the lines of: “Why are you writing about the Hummer so much.”
Why is this?! I’ve actually written more about the Hummer than the Skyline!

Honestly, I don’t hate Doug or his R32, but I would LOVE to see this actually happen.
edit: Aaaaand, it’s gone.

You’ll never please everyone, Doug.
Though, I wonder if it’d be more popular if you did a “Million-Mile Lexus” experiment, and lent it to other journos to write about.

Why I started a gofundme to destroy my car under a pseudonym

I don’t know what some people’s deal is. Your columns always bring me enjoyment and cold stares from my coworkers as I laugh uncontrollably at my desk.

You have a Hummer?! I hadn’t noticed.
![]() 09/17/2015 at 17:46 |

The Hummer lends itself to comedy quite well. Even those who don't like you're writing are laughing too hard to get their fingers on the correct keys to complain.

The internet folk are dumb
![]() 09/17/2015 at 17:52 |

I mean, the obvious solution is to run it over with with the Hummer, and he already has that.
![]() 09/17/2015 at 17:52 |

You’re absolutely on the right side of the internet if that’s the case.
![]() 09/17/2015 at 18:01 |

Wow, must have met their goal already.

That’s a pretty good rule of thumb, though that does put you in a group of people that torture cats.

Someone posted some thing about you (something something attention whore) the other day and I said something along the lines of: do people not realize its Dougs JOB to get attention?

Hey Doug, when the Range Rover decides to die, replace it with a used V-12 Mercedes. It’s the next logical step in unreliability. (Mine’s actually been pretty good reliability wise though)

As messed up as this is it’s good Publicity for Jalopnik and Doug.
I think it’s pretty shitty overall myself.

I appreciate that. Really. Obviously the vast majority of people like it (or else I would’ve been canned long ago!) but there will always be haters. No matter what I bought and how I wrote about it. But I always appreciate kind words.

Literally my job!
When I started this whole “buy a car and write about it” thing, I wanted to bring the perspective of owning these vehicles to a lot of people who wouldn’t want to own them, but do want to know what it’s like to own them. I think so far I’ve done a good job doing just that.
![]() 09/17/2015 at 19:24 |

Hah! 3 more years left on the Range Rover warranty, and then I think it’s looking more and more like a Land Cruiser.

I’m already thinking about next year’s car. We shall see...
![]() 09/17/2015 at 19:25 |

I also do!

I want an Allroad. I still want a B6 S4. I bought a C5 A6 2.7t.
I am your nightmare.

Any hint at what you’re thinking of for next year?
![]() 09/17/2015 at 20:13 |

Because, like I told you all those months ago: The Hummer H1 is the best car ever made. You just need to take it off road.

Hi Doug, Oppo’s Resident Third-Row Seat Driver, I am pjhusa - Oppo’s Resident Backseat Driver.

It’s well known that driving a HUMMER boosts the immune system, clearly you need to drive it more. And then drive it over your Skyline, and watch the internet explode.
![]() 09/17/2015 at 20:46 |

Cool ! What gen. are you thinking? Also, if you get a L.C , you have to go to MOAB.
![]() 09/17/2015 at 20:52 |

If its got a third row isn’t that automatically the back seat?
![]() 09/17/2015 at 22:41 |
|
Agreed! Probably a 200. I really want a ‘13, but they’re super expensive right now. When my warranty expires in December 2018, they’ll be right in my wheelhouse.
![]() 09/18/2015 at 10:30 |
|
That’s just it. You’re pretty candid about the fact that you’re buying certain cars to write about owning them. Yet people whinge about how you’re doing it to be an attention whore.
In short, the people complaining are ignorant and uninformed.
Love your work Doug, read your book, loved that too. Every time a reference comes out that was in the book I feel like I’m better than everyone else, it’s great!

Your next story should be about how millennial car fans don't understand shtick

Hah! I appreciate that! I expect to have a new one out early next year. I’ve just started and it’s already way better — my writing has improved a lot.
Thank you so much for the kind words!!

Doug, Completely side note but I would love to see you take the Skyline autocrossing. Usually I take the Mustang to Metlife Stadium to do it but there’s one in south Jersey that I was toying with trying. I think it would be fun!

doug you do know that we make fun of the ones we love.
I love your writting and laughed so hard when I saw that someone started a Doug DeDouchbag. twitter page.

Can’t wait. It’s good that you feel like you’ve improved, that’s the dream I guess. I’d say it has too, but that’s not to say the book wasn’t awesome.
